How to be a Self-Care Ninja

On a day like today when I’m dealing with an appraiser coming to the house, writing my book, and marketing tasks, in addition to client appointments, it’s challenging. Add to that a hefty dose of  all my friends and loved ones calling on the same day to connect, getting ready to move, and a difficult call with a family member scheduled for later, and it’s a recipe for potential disaster.  I’ve learned that on a day like this, I have to be a Ninja trained in the delicate art of immaculate self care.

It’s important that I focus on myself and what I need so that I can still be able to serve others. Sound familiar? If you’re a therapist or coach or caregiver of any kind, you probably know what I’m talking about. There has to be a balance between taking care of your client’s needs and taking care of your needs. But when you’re in a healing profession, there are also other people in your life that often turn to you for support. Navigating all that with love for both yourself and the people in your life is a Ninja skill!

Today as the personal calls started to pour in, I felt so loved and so grateful for all these people in my life. But I also felt a little overwhelmed with how to balance my work with returning all those calls and still finding some me time. If I use my break time, on a day like today, to return a dozen personal calls, then it leaves no time for me to regenerate myself.

Maybe you already do this, and if you do, you know that it works. At the beginning of each day I schedule my self care time along with my work time. Rather than making a to-do list, I schedule each task into my calendar.

Now you might be thinking, “But what if I don’t know how long it will take?”

clockEstimate. Because once you start putting things on your calendar, you’ll realize how much you can actually do in a day, and what you can’t. This is the first step towards more sanity and a more relaxed daily schedule.

Because I scheduled my work and rejuvenation time already today, I know that I don’t have time for all those phone calls during the day. But I also know that there will be time tonight for me to relax and connect. And that just makes me smile.

If you’d like more help navigating these challenges, I have a couple of ways to support you. The first is an online class based on the Six Gateways Shamanic principles that I’ve been working with for years. It’s filled with practices to help you nourish and rejuvenate yourself on a daily basis, as well as six powerful initiations to help you upgrade your energy and be a little stronger, braver, and more loving in the world. If you’d prefer one-on-one support, I offer that too. To get started, just click here for a free 15-minute consultation with me.
